Eligibility for the North Texas District Science Fair for Homeschoolers

  1. Home-educated students in Grades 3 through 12 who live in Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, or Rockwall counties (TEA region 10) during the 2008/2009 School Year may enter.
  2. Students who attend public schools (including on-line) or full-time private schools may not enter.
  3. Students who enter a project in any other science fair that feeds into the Beal Bank Regional Science & Engineering Fair or the Texas Science & Engineering Fair are not eligible to enter the NTD Science Fair.
  4. Homeschool students entering the Fort Worth Regional Science Fair from TEA region 11 may practice with us and earn awards; see Fort Worth Regional.

Competition division and student grade level

Division Grade Minimum expectations Winners
Investigator 3 and 4 Some research with simple experiment, display, 6-minute presentation with minimal questioning 3 receive medallions
Explorer 5 and 6 Research with experiment, display, 7-minute presentation, answer some questions 3 receive medallions
Junior 7 and 8 Research with original experiment, display, paper, 9-minute presentation, show knowledge of subject answering questions and ISEF Forms 3 receive trophies, at least 2 advance to DRSEF
Senior 9 to 12 Research with original experiment, display, paper, 10-minute presentation, exhibit familiarity with subject answering questions and ISEF Forms 3 receive trophies, at least 2 advance to DRSEF
All student projects MUST conform to the safety guidelines. If in doubt about something, send us a note. We will do our best to help you comply at the fair (time permitting), but your project may be weakened or disallowed.
